Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled Forensic Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, coupled with experience in forensic investigations. In this role, you will be responsible for analysing mechanical failures, accidents, and incidents, preparing detailed reports, and providing expert testimony when required.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct thorough investigations into mechanical failures, equipment malfunctions, accidents, and other incidents involving mechanical systems and components. • Perform on-site inspections, collect and preserve evidence, and document findings through detailed notes, photographs, and diagrams. • Analyse mechanical systems, materials, and components to identify failure modes, contributing factors, and root causes. • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of forensic experts, including electrical engineers, fire investigators, and legal professionals, to provide comprehensive analyses. • Prepare clear and concise forensic reports that include technical analysis, data interpretation, and visual documentation to support legal and insurance claims. • Provide expert testimony in in legal proceedings as required, explaining complex concepts in an understandable manner. • Stay current with industry standards, codes, and regulations related to mechanical systems, materials, and safety. • Travel to incident sites and client meetings as necessary.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. • CEng with IMechE or IMMM preferred, or a willingness to work towards Chartered status. • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 2 years in forensic investigations or failure analysis. • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, materials science, and failure analysis techniques. • Familiarity with industry standards and codes. • Experience with forensic tools and methodologies, including FEA (Finite Element Analysis), fracture mechanics, and material testing. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed investigations and interpret complex data. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, well organized reports. • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. • Willingness to travel, sometimes on short notice, including overnight and overseas trips.
